Six Things Your Mom Forgot To Tell You About Motherhood

By

motherhoodI remember being a new mother. I was nervous. I was overwhelmed. I was exhausted. At the same time, I was so completely in love with my baby boy that nothing else mattered. And, That was the problem. Nothing else mattered. My relationships, my appearance, my hobbies, my personal goals, my sex drive, my EVERYTHING took a backseat to my new title of “MOMMY”.  My entire life revolved around my son. My conversations, my new hobbies, my leisure time…everything. Everything around me screamed “MOMMY”. Bridgetta no longer existed.

Sure, I shined as a mother. I can honestly say that becoming a mother is pretty much the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’ve grown so much with the birth of my son. I’ve learned so much about life and love by raising him, but to be completely honest, while I was in full mommy mode 24/7, I was completely miserable. I cried daily. I felt invisible.  No one ever
gives you the real on that part of motherhood. You get feed all the ooey gooey love and butterflies, but people tend to leave out the less than favorable when talking about the real life of new mommies.

This feeling of isolation and invisibility is very common, yet no one is ever prepared for it because no one wants to bring it up. No one ever sat me down to tell me, “Hey, chick, your first few months are gonna be hell and you will hate your whole life and everyone in it, with the exception of your baby. Your life will no longer exist. You will wear nothing be sweatpants for the first 6 months of your baby’s life.
